Senna Leaf Tea (lot. Senna Alexandina Folium)

Areas of application: for the treatment of constipation, short-term softening of the stool, for hemorrhoids and for defecation before diagnostic and surgical procedures.
The tea is usually taken in the evening and works after 8-12 hours. Possible side effects include gastrointestinal complaints and urine discoloration. Old leaves should not be taken in high doses as this can lead to potassium loss.
In traditional Japanese medicine, modern research confirms the above effect: an old series of leaf preparations reduced abdominal bloating and abdominal pain as a result of a series of experiments in patients with chronic constipation taking stimulant laxatives, possibly by reducing intestinal gas volume.
