Active ingredients

Dried rhizomes contain 2.0 – 4.8% essential oil, glycoside acorine, starch, resins, up to 150 mg% ascorbic acid, tannins, minerals and other substances, leaves leaves essential oil, tannins, starch, up to 500 mg% ascorbine acid.

Healing properties

The rhizomes contain up to 5% essential oil (azarone, pinene, borneol, camphor, azarylaldehyde, etc.), bitter (kalemen, acorone), tannins, vitamin C.
Sweet flag has appetite-stimulating, digestive-improving, disinfecting, anti-inflammatory, astringent, wound-healing, antiemetic, antispasmodic, urinary and biliary excitatory effects.
In traditional medicine, sweet flag preparations are used in patients with gastritis, when the acidity is reduced, in the presence of gastric and duodenal ulcers, kidney stones, inflammation of the bladder, liver and gallbladder. The decoction is used to rinse the oral cavity in angina, gingivitis, inflammation of the throat, periodontitis; in case of bad smell, the hair is washed or the scalp is rubbed to eliminate dandruff and strengthen the hair roots.
