Useful properties of bark
Oak is a symbol of strength, strong health, beauty and longevity. The history of oak as a medicinal plant is very old. Its healing properties are written about in the handbooks of Hippocrates, Dioscorides and other ancient doctors.
The bark of the oaks used for treatment is peeled off in the spring, when it easily separates from the wood, from young branches or branches in the cuttings. Only young and smooth oak bark is suitable for treatment. Dry in the shade, in a well-ventilated room or in a dryer at a temperature no higher than 60 degrees.
The dried bark should be no more than 3 cm thick, shiny, smooth or slightly wrinkled, grayish-brown on the outside, yellowish or brownish-brown on the inside. The taste is strongly astringent, distinctive. The smell comes from soaking the bark in water. Properly stored dry bark retains its healing properties for 5 years.
