Ginkgo trees are the oldest trees on Earth, growing in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, when dinosaurs lived. Charles Darwin called them living fossils. Ginkgo leaves are used to prepare medicinal preparations. They can be picked from the tree or collected after they have fallen and turned yellow in early fall.
