Active ingredients

The active substances. Inflorescences accumulate essential oil (0.3-1.5%), flavonoids (apigenin, luteolin and quercetin), mucus, coumarins, choline, umbeliferone, salicylic acid, etc. The main ingredient in the essential oil is azulene, a blue-coloured hydrocarbon called chamazulene, and the other components are bisabalol, bisaboxide A, B, C, bisabolene oxide, and dicycloether. Chamomile flowers contain 0.2-0.8% of essential oil, which consists of chamazulene, terpene, sesquiterpene, cadine, isovaleric acid.

Healing properties

Medicinal chamomile preparations have an appetite-boosting, digestive-enhancing (bile-secreting), antispasmodic, sweat-stimulating, sedative, astringent, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
